Emergency Medical Dispatch

Basic overview

The Open ISES Project was creating a call taking program called Cards 911. It began by focusing on the EMD as there was a significant amount of information available. This included the DOT/NHTSA guidelines as well as several EMD systems from other states. The initial versions were created using OpenOffice and then converted to Adobe Acrobat format. This allowed the cards to integrate easily with the Tickets CAD software. The project had been fairly popular and was improving rapidly.

On 27 June 2008 we received a Cease and Desist letter from Stoel Rives Attorneys at Law on behalf of Medical Priority Consultants of Salt Lake City, Utah. To avoid any legal action we had to take the Cards911 site and associated files down. This project generated no revenue and as such we could not afford to fight a notice in court.

Cards 911 Project Discussed at TechDirt

Over at the TechDirt web site Mike Masnick has written an article about how the Priority Dispatch Corporation shut down the Cards 911 Project. There are some serious questions raised about whether the patents claimed by Priority Dispatch Corporation are even valid. We would encourage you to take a few minutes and read the entire article then pass the word around to others.

You can take a look at a copy of the Cease & Desist letter sent to the Cards 911 Project
